Source:Source: HayGroup, Comparing Operational Efficiency of Ontario Hospitals with Hospitals in Other Provinces, November 2010 using 2008/09 CIHI hospital data and hospital-reported MIS Chart of Accounts data. The comparison is based on a sample of 21 Ontario hospitals and 20 non-Ontario hospital sites.
Note:This is a measure of labour efficiency for hospitals providing acute care and same day surgery. The figure represents number of hours of direct patient care (excluding physician time) provided on an inpatient nursing unit, and in the ambulatory care and diagnostic & therapeutic areas of the hospital, for each “weighted case”. A weighted case is a standard measure of a “case” (otherwise known as a patient admission) which takes into account the fact that different cases have different resource requirements.
